Christmas shopping season is well and truly open at the market, after last week’s evening opening and switch on event.

And we’re now open six-days-a-week!

So if you’re looking for presents, stocking up on locally sourced produce or simply want to meet friends and refuel, it’s all here.

Thanks to the many thousands who came and created such a fun atmosphere.

We hope you enjoyed the entertainment and browsed the wonderful stalls at our Festive Food & Drink Fair on Thursday 25 November.

Alongside our much loved regular traders who stayed open late to welcome seasonal shoppers were numerous Christmas pop-ups with businesses, charities and community organisations.

Thanks to Amazing Accrington and the Council for an amazing community event that showcased the best of our borough.

A Christmas spectacular

The evening had everything, from LED drummers and live music acts, to a moving school choir collective.

Plus the switch on itself by actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, followed by a spectacular firework finish.

And it was great to see so many people visiting the stalls inside and outside.

We’re glad you were able to pick up gifts, sweet treats and warming drinks, as well as donating generously to local causes.

One of the biggest hits was the bucking reindeer in the Market Hall, which many tackled with enthusiasm, if not expertise.

Record festive footfall

Hyndburn Borough Council leader Miles Parkinson OBE commented:

‘I’ve never seen crowds as big in Accrington town centre – over 12,000 people!

‘All of the charities, volunteers and everyone involved in the organisation deserve a big thank you.

‘I hope everyone enjoys the season and now they’ve seen what we have to offer, continues to enjoy shopping in Accrington.’

And Accrington Market manager Sameena King echoed the sentiments, saying:
‘The amount of footfall we saw was unbelievable and from talking to traders, the support shown has been amazing.
‘From the charities outside to the pop-ups and regular traders inside, we want to say a big thank you.
‘And of course, we hope you’ll continue to come down and support local businesses over Christmas.’
